Women all over the world are still fighting to gain equality in the workplace. On October 23rd, GUD partnered with Girls For Business to host a virtual speaker event addressing this issue.
Girls For Business is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young women to pursue business, offering free mentorship and resources to facilitate their success. With a similar mission to give security to young girls, GUD worked with Girls For Business to bring two speakers, Maggie Nelson and Khushi Afre, to talk about their experiences in the workplace.
Maggie Nelson is an educator and leader at Siegfried Entrepreneurial Leadership Fellows. She runs the international Diamond Challenge entrepreneurship competition and has extensive experience as a female leader in the workforce. Khushi Afre is a current sophomore at GeorgiaTech, interning at Tech Square Ventures and Leland. Both Nelson and Afre were able to give advice to the girls through a Zoom call lasting from 7:00-8:00 PM EDT, answering their questions and giving advice on pitching, cyber defense, and self-confidence. Through this experience, attendees were able to gain valuable wisdom that will aid in their current and future experiences as women in the workforce.
